A typical Fiberglass product is a Resin based product reinforced with Fiberglass Fabric, usually coated with decorative Gel Coat on the surface, which is a topcoat mixed with Polyester Resin and color paste. Obviously, the final performance of fiberglass components is directly related to the type of resin, the morphology of glass fibers, and the specific molding process.
Hand layup lamination is the most common fiberglass process, as shown in the figure above: the surface white is the gel coating layer, and the color can be customized according to customer needs. The conventional gel coating system mainly consists of ortho benzene, meta benzene, or meta phenylene glycol, while vinyl or Epoxy systems are generally used for fiberglass mold manufacturing. The back of the gel coat is a hand laid layer of various glass fibers and resins, and some inert fillers or additives can also be added to improve the physical or heat resistance properties of the final fiberglass product.
Simply put, fiberglass is a product composed of resin and fibers, and its final performance is related to specific materials and molding processes.
